Attractive village where 15thC church, rectory and old school flank delightful green with avenue of limes. Granite stack of Bowerman's Nose visible from church porch. Novelist John Galsworthy once lived in Wingstone farm, and his novella The Apple Tree woven around the local tragedy of Kitty Jay, who committed suicide rather than face unwed pregnancy. Her grave is north west of Hound Tor. Nearby ruins of medieval settlement.
