Ponies help to give Dartmoor its unique character and are one of the attractions for visitors to the area. Ponies live on the moor all year round and are owned by farmers. The traditional Dartmoor is a short, stocky pony with a strong body and a full, flowing mane. Its colouring can be shades of brown, grey and black. Dartmoor ponies are not tame - they look cuddly and friendly but can bite or kick.Remember not to feed the ponies as this attracts them to the roads and they can get hurt. Find out more information on ponies click here to download the Dartmoor Ponies Leaflet or the Dartmoor Ponies Factsheet or view the Spirit of the Pony Exhibition at the Dartmoor National Park Authority website.
